The tribute to American war heroes started out in 1988 with 2,500 participants. In 2017, Rolling Thunder's 30th anniversary approximately 900,000 participants and spectators attended the demonstration in Washington, DC.

In 2017, we celebrated its 30th year, the biggest ever. Over 900,000  participants and supporters were estimated by the DC police and the National Park Service. Rolling Thunder®’s Ride For Freedom, is one of the largest one-day motorcycle events in the world. In our hearts, the most important. It is a reminder of the american services members from all wars, who have fought for our freedom that did not make it home. A reminder of our promise “they we will not be forgotten" and that we will continue to demand from our government, full accountability. We owe it to them and we owe it to their families.
